SK-II Review

Before jumping into my review, I want to quickly explain what BzzAgent is. BzzAgent is a word of mouth company that sends you products or services to test out in exchange for an honest review. In addition to giving BzzAgent a review, you are encouraged to talk to friends/family/coworkers about the product (called a bzz). In my BzzKit, I received three products from the Japanese brand SK-II. There’s actually an interesting story behind this brand, quoted from Sephora. “SK-II began at a sake brewery in Japan. Scientists noticed the elderly workers had wrinkled faces but extraordinarily soft and youthful-looking hands—thanks to Pitera™, a naturally derived liquid from the sake fermentation process.” The scientist in me loves these kinds of discoveries. That, combined will all of the great things I’ve read about the brand and their products made me very excited to receive this Bzz kit. The three products I received were the Facial Treatment EssenceEssential Power Cream and one Facial Treatment Mask.

To use the Facial Treatment Essence, it was recommended to sprinkle some into the palm of your hands and press your hands into your face/neck until the essence was absorbed. I tried this initially, but with the semi-wide bottle opening, I found this to be way to wasteful. Instead, I added some to a cotton pad and applied it to my face in the same way I apply toner: starting on the middle of my face and working my way out. The essence is unscented, and didn’t leave my face feeling sticky. It was very soothing and left my skin looking more even. I have only been using it for a few days, so I can’t tell yet if it helps with dark spots or wrinkles.

After the essence, I use the Essential Power Cream. Unfortunately, for me, this moisturizer wasn’t anything special. With that said,  it is very moisturizing, but doesn’t feel heavy on the skin so I think it is perfect for those winter months when my skin is extra dry. I am enjoying using it but it’s not something I will run out to purchase (especially for $215!).

Lastly, I received the Facial Treatment Mask. I am a huge fan of masks, of all kinds.  I have only used sheet masks a few times so I was excited to try another one, especially one from such an amazing brand. After cleansing my face, I applied this mask making sure all parts of my face were covered (I accidentally left the nose strip folded so make sure it’s completely unfolded before using!). I then proceeded to lay down in bed while reading a book for 20 minutes. Even though the mask has a lot of liquid, I didn’t experience problems with it dripping everywhere and making a mess. If you’re concerned, simply wrap a towel around your chest/shoulders. After the 20 minutes were up, I removed the mask and patted the excess liquid all over my face and neck- I don’t know if this is how to use this mask, but a previous sheet mask I tried said to do that, so I did. I don’t know if my skin has ever felt so smooth- I couldn’t stop touching it because I couldn’t believe how smooth and soft it was! My skin also looked radiant, as if I had just had an hour long facial. Sure the mask is a bit pricey ($17 each), but it’s less expensive (and easier and less of a time commitment) than going to the spa! I loved this mask and may have to buy some for times when my skin needs a pick-me-up.

Overall, I loved this introduction to the SK-II brand. I look forward to trying more of their products in the future.
