DIY Lip Balm by Alicia

If you’re extra careful about the ingredients you use on your skin like I am, then you’ll appreciate this simple, do it yourself lip balm. It doesn’t take very much time to make, and it really is so hydrating. Plus, it will save you some money in the long run, because the cost is minimal is make it yourself.

Things You’ll Need

Coconut Oil (10 g) – This ultra-moisturizing ingredient works hard to add hydration to dry, chapped skin. You can use it on your hair, skin, lips, or nails!

Argan Oil (5 Drops) – With high levels of vitamin E, argan oil absorbs into your skin quickly. Plus, it’s non-greasy which is perfect for your lips.

Shea Butter (3 g) – Shea butter has a high concentration of natural vitamins and is very nourishing. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties and is very soothing.

Grated Beetroot (4 Drops) – Beetroot contains folic acid, iron, zinc, and vitamin C which are all important for your skin. Plus, it’s naturally red in color which can help tint your lip balm.

First, press about 4 drops of juice from the grated beetroot and set aside. If you want a darker tint to your lip balm, use a few extra drops, and if you want a lighter tint, use a few less drops.

On your stovetop, prepare a small pan and use the lowest heat setting. Add in coconut oil, and stir until it melts completely. Next, add in shea butter and mix well. Gently stir in argan oil next.

Now, you’ll add in your beetroot. It’s important to stir in this ingredient extra well so the end result is an evenly colored lip balm.

If you’d prefer, you can add in essential oils for a light fragrance. Personally, I really enjoy adding peppermint! You can also add in additional coloring from your pharmacy.

Pour the liquid into a jar and allow it to cool and set in your fridge for the next 10 minutes. Now, you’re ready to throw it in your purse for on-the-go lip hydration! This recipe will make one lip balm.
