Da Ming is a New Zealand middle school student of Chinese descent. He was accustomed to the leisure life style in Wellington, the capital of this beautiful island country, despite of the fact that he was a hard working boy back there. Last year he came to Beijing as an exchange student. He enjoyed the fascinating sights, the real Chinese food, and friendly schoolmates, whilst struggled a bit with the school life in China.First is the pressure. He found that all the students started early everyday. By eight o'clock they have already finished the morning exercises, the breakfast and started the first class, whilst back home he should be just waking up at this time. The classes were intense and the homework loads looked dauntingly large. Everyone seemed to be habitually running at the fast paces. Then it was the monotony. After the day's classes there were hours for the students to play, to exercise sports, or to go socializing in various clubs, but Da Ming saw many were still burying themselves in texts and exercise books in classrooms or library. These students were also actively discussing some hot topics, to his disappointment that nearly all of them were on the study contents. Not many top students would like to spend two hours on weekend to join Da Ming for a movie night. Finally it was the obedience. Different from NZ students, the Chinese counterparts mind their grades excessively. In order to perform to the best, they listened and followed every word in their teachers' directions. They seldom do any thing that was not suggested by the teachers, and everybody was trying hard to be a “good boy” or “good girl”. This puzzled Da Ming greatly as in New Zealand the students were fairly independent, and they believed that there were “many ways that lead to Rome” as long as you were sure doing it right.Da Ming loves this country where his culture is rooted in, but he still needs some time to get used to it. He considers himself now as not quite settled into the school life here.。

Here is my new year plan. I will listen to the teacher carefully in class and review what I am leant after class.I will study hard so that I can get good grades. I will spend more time on English because I am weak in my spoken language and sometimes I am shy to speak in front of the class. I will try my best to help more people. I am going to do more sports because I think it's a good way of keeping healthy. I will help my parents do more housework and I will help my classmates with their lessons, too.

I usually get up at 6:15 in the morning. then I do morning exercises in the playground. At 6:40, I have my breakfast. You can see many students and teachers in the dinning room. After breakfast, I often read English with my classmates. We have six classes every day. the first class begins at 7:50 am. I like all the classes, because my teachers can make the classes lively and interesting. My favorite subject is English, so I join English Corner every week. I can speak English with many other students there. It\'s very interesting and exciting. I think it\'s helpful for me to learn English well. After class, I always play games with my friends. We play basketball, soccer ball, volleyball, ping-pong and so on. they are very relaxing. I like my lessons, my friends and my teachers. In a word, I love my school. I find my school life is more and more meaningful and colorful. My school life is wonderful, isn't it?。
