Nightly Skincare Routine

When it comes to skincare, I am really bad about sticking to a routine. With so many brands and products, it’s hard for me to use the same things over and over again- I love experimenting. Plus, as I’ve mentioned, I love the Sephora Favorites kits and Birchbox limited edition boxes which provide me with more samples than I could ever use!

I’m lucky that my skin allows me to experiment so much. I know lots of people have more sensitive skin that freaks out when they try something new. I actually used to be like that when I was a teenager. Maybe the fact that I had to stick to a routine when I was younger makes me want to try different things now.

Recently, I’ve found myself using the same products every night because I’m enjoying using them night after night.

I start by using the Make Dual-Phase Makeup Remover I received in my Birchbox a few months ago. I really like this because it removes all traces of my eye makeup without leaving a greasy residue.

I follow with the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. Prior to this, I had never used a cleansing balm. This starts as a solid and once it gets warmed up from contact with your skin, it melts into an oil. I apply it all over my dry face and then use a damp muslin cloth to remove it, which leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. I use the muslin cloth because I think it helps to remove all traces of the product.

Some nights, I move onto toner after this. However, a few times a week I use the Vasanti Brighten Up! Exfoliator. This is another product I received from Birchbox, but after trying it, I quickly traded for a few more! This is a nice exfoliator because you can actually feel the exfoliating beads by they’re not so rough they leave your skin raw and red. In fact, after use, my skin is glowing and smooth. Even so, I try not use this more than 3 times a week so it doesn’t irritate my skin.

I end with the Sunday Riley Good Gene Treatment serum. I received this in the Birchbox vanity affair box, and I was concerned after reading reviews that this would be too small to get a feeling for it. Yes,  the tube is small, however, you don’t need a lot of product for your entire face so you’ll get a lot of uses out of it. I think I’ve used it every night for almost two weeks and still have more product left. This serum is supposed to help with dark spots but I’m still waiting to see if this will help fade my old acne scars. However, my skin does feel very soft after use so I’m enjoying this little tube!

Finally, I finish off my slathering CeraVe lotion over my face and neck. My dermatology friends swear by this moisturizer (in the tub not the one with dispenser) so it’s my go- to moisturizer.

After that, I’m ready for bed! It may seem like a lot of steps, but it actually doesn’t take more than a few minutes from beginning to end. I think the longest step is waiting for the water to warm up to remove the cleansing balm. I’m nearing the end of the Sunday Riley treatment and the Vasanti, so soon I’ll be adding some new steps in my routine- I can’t wait!
