This new bi-monthly series, Meet the Blogger, is a way to learn about the blogger behind the blog. If you are interested in participating, get in touch with me through the contact page, and I will send you the information!
Today we will be chatting with Stephanie from A Reader’s Oasis. Stephanie fills A Reader’s Oasis with book reviews spanning all genres, and includes guest reviews where other bloggers review books they have recently read. Next time you’re looking for a book recommendation, head to A Reader’s Oasis!
Where are you from?
I’m born and raised in NYC; specifically the Lower East Side, and I’m Puertorican.
Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
I am 26 years old and I run a book blog called A Reader’s Oasis. I graduated from the City College of New York with a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. My blog focuses on books and writing which are two of the things I really love.
How did you first get into blogging?
This is a great question, because I started to think about a time before I created my wordpress blog. I remember in high school I started a xanga which was a hosting site like wordpress. I talked about life and school, because at one point I wanted to be a journalist and have my own column like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. Fast forward to wordpress. I started a blog called Strongly Speaking about 4 years ago. I wanted to blog about books, beauty, and makeup. I did that for a while, but then decided to focus solely on books in 2014, because I was twice as passionate about that and I found it wasn’t as fun to write about makeup as it was to talk about with friends.
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog?
I wish I knew how much work was really involved in creating a successful blog. It’s not just about writing a blog post. It’s about engaging your readers, networking, creating fun and exciting content. Managing a brand across all social media. Most of all that it takes time and patience to build a successful blog.
Where do you see your blog in 5 years?
This is a hard question, because I really don’t know. I hope to still be blogging and to have built a bigger and stronger blog. I also home to actually own my own domain and not just be hosted by wordpress. I love wordpress but it would be great to have something that I can say I own. Hopefully with my own logos and site creations.
What is your favorite aspect of blogging?
My favorite aspect of blogging are the connections I make with other people. I’m able to communicate with people from all walks of life/cultures and we find these common interests to discuss. I also just enjoy sharing what I learn from reading and what I think about reading/writing.
If I gave you $100, what beauty items that you don’t own would you buy?
That’s tough because there are so many things I want that I don’t have yet. I would get some new Morphe Brushes (which are amazing makeup brushes), Crisis lipstick from Urban Decay, Kat Von D shade light contour palette. I could go on and on.
What skin care or beauty steps do you religiously take time for?
I always make time to cleanse, moisturize, and put masks on my face to keep my skin healthy. I also always make time for my eyebrows.
What five fantastic products do you use now, and why do you love them.
Urban Decay Naked Foundation, Morphe 350 Palette, NARS Laguna Bronzer, Buxom Mascara, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray.
What are two beauty blogs we should check out, and why do you love them?
Do you prefer getting dressed up or being casual?
I love to get dressed up but I do prefer being casual.
What do you do in your spare time?

What is your favorite thing to do on a lazy weekend morning?
