First Impressions: Dermalogica MediBac Clearing Line

When I started talking about the fact that changes in hormone levels has been making my skin break out like crazy, Dermalogica was kind enough to send me their mediBac Clearing line in order to help clear my skin. Apparently, most acne products on the market are designed for teenagers, which means they’re too harsh for adult skin. This line from Dermalogica is specifically formulated to treat acne in adults, while addressing the needs of adult skin. These products are meant to be used morning and night to help maintain consistently clear, healthy skin. I wasn’t actually sure the correct order of application for all of these products, so my Instagram friend Sarah (@sarahjeangirl) helped me out!

I received two spot treatments, Special Clearing Booster and Overnight Clearing Gel, which are both used for active breakouts. The main difference is the Booster contains Benzoyl Peroxide while the Gel has salicylic acid.  The Special Clearing Booster is a topical gel treatment, containing 5% Benzoyl Peroxide, to combat breakouts. The Overnight Clearing Gel  is an overnight treatment designed to help clear skin congestion and help prevent future breakouts. It’s a personal preference which one you use. I’ve been using the Booster because even though it’s more drying, I want something a little stronger to help with my frequent breakouts.

Breakout Control is a fast-absorbing gel that helps to clear and prevent breakouts without over-drying the skin. This is a product applied on areas of the face where you commonly experience breakouts, in order to prevent them. For me, that’s my T-zone and jawline.

Oil Control Lotion  is a feather-light lotion that contains ingredients that help to absorb oils on the skins surface, which combats shine and produces a matte finish. I like that it’s lightweight, but that it also controls oil and shine.

Clearing Mattifier is a breakout-fighting shine control. It is applied after the lotion to further control oil and prevent breakouts. In that way, it acts similarly to a primer. This is the product I’m most excited by; I need all the oil-control help I can get, and love that this can be used under makeup.

Sebum Clearing Masque This is a cooling, refining and deep cleaning clay masque that purifies, absorbs excess oils, and helps prevent future breakouts. Salicylic acid clears congested follicles to minimize breakouts while the clays absorb excess oil. I love masks, and clay masks always work really well for my skin to help clear congestion. This mask will get a lot of love from me in the coming months.

Altogether, I am excited to have this line and can’t wait to see how it works on my skin. If you’re like me, and don’t want to commit to the full sizes before trying them, you’re in luck- these products can be purchased as a trial set.
