February 2017 Birchbox Review

Last month two things happened that together convinced me to grab a February Birchbox. First, I received a $10 credit due to a California class action lawsuit. Second, I found a promo code for a deluxe sample of the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the color Patina, which I have been dying to try. My box took a long time to get to me, but I finally received it on the last day of the month. I don’t love the box, especially not enough to consider resubscribing, but I am happy about one product and indifferent about the rest.

The product I am happiest about is the R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo simply because I love dry shampoo and am always looking for new ones to try. This one sounds great as it no only zaps away excess oils, but it also adds texture and volume, which my 2-day hair desperately needs as it starts to look limp.

I received 3 skincare items which I’m pleased with. The Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream acts as a primer and a foundation while also providing SPF to protect against the harmful UV rays. This is a great product to have on those days you want minimal coverage without the need for a full-coverage foundation, but also want your skin to be protected. It’s also perfect to add as a base layer if your foundation doesn’t contain SPF.

The Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre  is a multi-tasking quick-absorbing moisturizer that doubles as a makeup remover, making it perfect for travel. I am going on a 2-week trip in a month, so I will be taking this along to help cut down on toiletry space. Plus, I have this fascination with French beauty products (how do the French have such perfect skin?!) so I love trying out  new French products.

The fine skincare product I received is Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Antioxidant Serum with Retinol. This balancing serum is a product I was very curios to try out- it’s a mattifying primer that also shrinks the looks of pores and diminishes the appearance of fine lines. This is another great multi-tasking product that I will toss in my travel bag for my upcoming trip. I have heard quite a bit about Paula’s Choice but have yet to use any of her products, so I’m excited to give this a try.

The last item I received in my box was the LAQA & Co. Avo Lip Butter, in the shade &&. I was excited to receive this lipstick and was hoping it would come in a nude color. Instead I got a deep red color that I will use, though less frequently. Just the color alone seems an odd choice for spring, when most people opt for nudes or brighter colors. As you can see in the above swatch, the lipstick is actually a big streaky. I will exfoliate my lips throughly and test this out in hopes it will apply smoothly.
